Emily Courey Pryor Appointed to Board of The Data Tank

The Data Tank values are putting people first, embracing transparency, striving for inclusivity, championing internationalism, being visionary and fostering creativity. We do not only pay lip service to these statements, but also back them with our work and team. In this context, The Data Tank is particularly pleased to announce that Emily Courey Pryor has joined the Data Tank as a new Board member. Her extensive experience and dedication to gender equality and social impact make her a timely addition to The Data Tank’s mission of serving the common good together, by using data differently.

Born and raised in the United States, Emily’s path has evolved from Liberty Street in Ann Arbor, Michigan (where she attended graduate school) to Avenida da Liberdade in Portugal, where she currently resides. This global perspective and cross-cultural experience reflect Emily’s ability to connect with people as a voice for change, making her an invaluable asset to our organization.

Emily’s work as a voice for change includes the establishment of Data2X in 2012. As its founding executive director, she worked towards diminishing gender bias in global data sources and encouraging the use of gender data for more informed decision-making. Throughout her professional career and as an investor, Emily has focused on gender and women’s empowerment, global health, economic development, and climate change and renewable energy. From her time at the United Nations Foundation to her roles at Gilead Sciences and the American Red Cross, Emily has consistently championed causes that promote equality and social progress.

Emily said of her appointment, “I am so pleased to join The Data Tank board. I have had the opportunity to see first-hand the importance of greater inclusion in data design and collection and am eager to support The Data Tank as they integrate a gender equality and social inclusion perspective into data use and re-use. The evidence is clear that diverse perspectives strengthen equitable outcomes, and The Data Tank is well positioned to accelerate those outcomes through promoting responsible, thoughtful, and innovative data use.”

We are privileged to have someone with her level of expertise joining us at the Data Tank, as we continue to explore ways to re-use data for a more sustainable and equitable world. We extend a warm welcome to Emily Courey Pryor and know her experience and contributions will become a vital part of The Data Tank family and vision.
